Youth Program Overview

Wednesday, July 18 - Youth Program Check-In and Welcome Reception

Every year the Annual Kois Center Symposium opens with the traditional Welcome Reception. This is an opportunity for our Kois members to catch up and for the Youth Program participants to check-in, receive their program materials and meet the program leaders. The Youth Program check-in will be at the Grand Hyatt, in the Discovery Room (Lobby Level), from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

If you are unable to make this check-in, due to travel arrangements, please speak with Jen directly.

Thursday, July 19 - Wild Waves!

To kick off the first of three fun-packed days, we will head over to one of our all-time favorite spots – Wild Waves! 70 acres of fun, with more than 60 rides, roller coasters, water slides, wave pools, carnival games, and a “Kid’s Kingdom,” provide our youth with a busy and exciting afternoon. Wild Waves is always a hit, and after everyone sets up his or her towel on the hill and finds a friend and Staff member, the fun begins! We will spend the entire afternoon trying to hit as many rides and slides as possible and will take a quick break for lunch and dessert.

Please bring: Bathing suit, sandals, goggles, water wings (if required), hat/sunglasses, shorts and a change of clothes. Towels and sunscreen are provided.

Friday, July 21 - Nate Jester: Ace of Illusions, Pacific Science Center and Ride the Ducks!

Our second day will begin with the appearance of Nate Jester, Seattle’s local Ace of Illusions! Nate is a well renowned magician and has even appeared on America’s Got Talent. He will be coming to the Grand Hyatt to perform for our youth members and has created an interactive, captivating and comical show for us.

We will then take the Monorail to the Pacific Science Center, where Youth Participants will have the chance to explore the featured exhibits and experience a movie in IMAX. We will finish with a lunch before heading to our final activity, the well known and eagerly anticipated “Ride the Ducks” of Seattle Tour. The Youth Program will take a tour of Seattle by both land and water and will finally head back to the Grand Hyatt for the conclusion of our second day.

Please bring: Closed-toe shoes, hat/sunglasses and a light jacket.

Saturday, July 22 - Vertical World and Seattle Aquarium!

Our third and final day will begin at Vertical World, a Rock Climbing gym located just outside of Seattle. Here our youth participants will rotate through three stations (bouldering, auto-belaying, and top roping) to ensure maximum climbing time and a chance to try everything the gym has to offer. Youth Program Staff and Vertical World Staff will be positioned throughout the facility for uninterrupted supervision.

For the finale of the program, we will take a bus to the Seattle Aquarium. The Seattle aquarium boasts six main exhibits – Window on Washington Waters, Life on the Edge, Pacific Coral Reef, Underwater Dome, Birds & Shores and Marine Mammals – as well as featured shows starring the aquarium animals. The aquarium is a perfect activity for kids of all ages, and will undoubtedly be a highlight of the program!

Please bring: Closed-toe shoes and a light jacket.

Who is staffing the program, and how does it work if I have a young child participating?

The Youth Program has been carefully designed to ensure that all youth participants experience an incredible three days and are kept very safe.  Many of the Staff members are previous participants and are very familiar with some of the activities we do, as well as the areas we visit. Each Staff member is paired with a group so the Staff to Youth Participant ratio is approximately 1:5. Groups including younger participants are smaller, which allows Staff members to provide adequate attention to the younger children at all times.

 

Can kids be signed up for only specific days of the program as opposed to the entire program?

Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate partial participation in the Youth Program. Transportation and activities are planned around the total number of youth participants, and our Staff members are hired for three full days.

 

Can an adult sign up to accompany his or her youth on particular days?

We do allow and welcome adults, parents, and guardians to register on a day-by-day basis for the Youth Program if he or she is accompanying a youth member. Please contact Jen directly for adult registration.
